What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable medication specifically designed to manage type 2 diabetes and aid in weight loss. It contains the active ingredient tirzepatide, which works by enhancing insulin sensitivity and promoting a feeling of fullness, thereby supporting both blood sugar regulation and weight reduction.

How Does Mounjaro Work?

Tirzepatide, the active component in Mounjaro, targets multiple pathways involved in glucose metabolism and appetite control. It helps lower blood sugar levels and promotes weight loss by:

  • Increasing insulin sensitivity
  • Reducing appetite and food intake
  • Slowing gastric emptying

Benefits of Mounjaro

  • Effective blood sugar management
  • Promotes significant weight loss
  • Once-weekly dosing for convenience
  • Suitable for long-term treatment in combination with diet and exercise

Mounjaro Maintenance Strategies

At Curely, we understand that maintaining weight loss can be a challenge, and we’re here to support you along the way.

Why Maintenance Matters

After reaching your target weight, a maintenance plan is crucial for long-term weight management alongside healthy lifestyle choices. The appropriate dose for maintenance is typically determined by our prescribing clinician, who will monitor the effectiveness of your treatment and any potential side effects to find the right balance for individual patients.

Maintenance doses for Mounjaro include:

  • 5 mg, 10 mg, or 15 mg.

If you are on a higher dose and continue to lose weight after reaching a healthy BMI, it is essential to gradually lower your dose. The goal is to find a dose that supports weight stability, appetite control, and your lifestyle without further weight loss.

When We Stop Prescribing Mounjaro:
As a general guideline, for patients who started with a BMI of 30 or higher, treatment will usually stop when BMI drops below 22. This prevents the risk of becoming underweight, which can lead to:

  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Weakened immune function
  • Bone health problems

Your overall BMI and health status are key in determining whether treatment continues, adjusts, or stops.

Switching to Curely for Maintenance Treatment

If you’re switching to Curely for Mounjaro maintenance:

  • BMI Eligibility:
    • If your BMI is below 23 and you are not already a Curely patient, we will not provide treatment.
    • For BMIs 23 and above, you must provide evidence of your current Mounjaro treatment, including documentation from your previous provider.

What Happens If I Stop Mounjaro?

If you and our clinician decide to stop Mounjaro, maintaining weight loss will rely on diet and lifestyle changes:

  • Balanced Diet: Prioritise whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Minimise sugary drinks and highly processed foods.
  • Regular Exercise: Combine cardio activities (e.g., walking, cycling) with strength training to support your metabolism and muscle health.
  • Mindful Eating: Pay attention to hunger and fullness cues to avoid overeating or emotional eating.
  • Consistency: Sustainable habits that fit your lifestyle—such as routine meals and regular exercise—are key to maintaining weight loss.
  • Seek Support: Ongoing guidance from a healthcare provider or support group can help keep you accountable.
  1. Inject subcutaneously once a week on the same day.
  2. Injection Sites: Abdomen, thigh, or upper arm (rotate sites).
  3. Missed Dose: Take as soon as possible within three days; otherwise, skip and resume your regular schedule.
  4. Storage: Refrigerate and protect from light.
